Key Process of Biodiesel Production


1.Pre-treatment

A biodiesel production plant begins with feedstock pretreatment. Raw oils are filtered to remove impurities, then heated and settled to eliminate moisture. The process converts free fatty acids into neutral oils, ensuring cleaner input for efficient production.

2.Esterification

Ocean’s biodiesel production plant mixes raw oil, methanol, and a catalyst in precise ratios. Under normal pressure and 95–110°C, free fatty acids react with methanol to form methyl esters—an essential step that improves feedstock quality and stability. Recovered methanol is reused through advanced neutralization and distillation systems, ensuring efficient and sustainable biodiesel production.







3.Transesterification

Biodiesel production continues with the transesterification stage. The pre-esterified materials are neutralized and dehydrated, then mixed with methanol and a catalyst in precise ratios. The reaction takes place in a tubular reactor under controlled temperature. After methanol removal, the mixture settles again for glycerin separation.









4.Glycerin Treatment

The biodiesel production line includes a dedicated glycerin treatment section designed for efficient byproduct recovery. Crude glycerin is first heated to remove residual methanol, then acid-neutralized and settled to recover fatty acids for reuse in methyl ester production. After pH adjustment, the refined glycerin is ready for sale, enhancing overall resource utilization and process sustainability.








5.Biodiesel Distillation

Biodiesel production achieves final purification through multi-tower vacuum distillation. Crude methyl ester is refined to remove sulfur compounds and impurities, producing high-purity biodiesel. The biodiesel production plant uses thermal oil heating and energy recovery design, ensuring an efficient and stable distillation process.








6.Methanol Recovery

Excess methanol and exhaust gases from esterification and transesterification are first neutralized, then sent to the methanol distillation system for recovery. This recycled methanol reduces emissions and improves overall process efficiency.
