Key Process of Plant-Based Squalene Extraction


1.Raw Material Pretreatment Section

Plant-based raw materials (olive oil deodorizer distillate, rice bran oil wax, amaranth seed oil) undergo thorough preparation:

Filtration: Removal of solid impurities through precision filtration systems

Dehydration: Moisture content control using vacuum drying technology

Standardization: Batch composition stabilization through blending and analysis

2. Extraction & Concentration Section

Molecular Distillation (Core Technology): Multi-stage short-path distillation separates squalene from other components under high vacuum (0.001-1 mbar) at controlled temperatures (150-250°C), achieving initial squalene concentration >70%

Solvent Extraction Option: Alternative method using selective solvents (hexane/acetone) with complete solvent recovery systems (>99.5% recovery rate)

3. Refining & Purification Section

Esterification/Saponification: Converts residual free fatty acids to easily removable esters or soaps

Decolorization: Activated carbon/clay treatment removes pigments and impurities

Secondary Molecular Distillation/Chromatography: Final purification stage achieving >90-98% purity levels

4. Post-Processing & Filling Section

Precision Filtration: 0.2-0.45 micron filtration for particle-free product

Deoxygenation/Nitrogen Blanketing: Continuous nitrogen protection maintaining O₂ <50ppm

Automated Filling: Light-protected packaging (amber glass/aluminum containers) in nitrogen atmosphere

Main Equipment

Molecular Distillation System

The core separation unit features multi-stage short-path distillation with high vacuum capability (<0.001 mbar). Constructed with 316L stainless steel and equipped with internal condensers, the system achieves separation temperatures 150-250°C with minimal thermal degradation. Automated feed rate control and continuous scraping ensure optimal separation efficiency.

Plate & Frame Filter Press

Used in the pretreatment and refining stages for solid-liquid separation. Features polypropylene plates with cake discharge automation, effectively removing solid impurities, activated carbon, and decolorizing agents. Designed with CIP cleaning system and safety interlocks for continuous operation in squalene purification processes.

Deacidification Column

Critical equipment for removing free fatty acids (FFA) during squalene purification. Utilizes counter-current steam stripping under vacuum conditions to reduce FFA content below 0.1%. Constructed with 316L stainless steel, equipped with structured packing for maximum contact efficiency and automatic temperature-pressure control systems.
